Awesome Anglers host fishing groups and activities for people living with a Disability or Mental Illness in both Brisbane and Cairns.
Our goal is to create friendships outside of Awesome Anglers.
The wellbeing benefits of fishing are well known, but did you know that fishing triggers the body to release the four ‘happiness hormones’? Lifting our mental state, reducing stress and anxiety.
Spending time in nature can increase the production of serotonin, a chemical in the brain that helps regulate mood.
Serotonin is also strongly linked to vitamin D and sunlight.
Cathing a fish can provide a sense of acomplishment which boost self esteem and confidence, but also releases the body’s reward hormone – dopamine.
Fishing as a social activity provides the opportunity to connect with others and build relationships. These social interactions trigger oxytocin releases which improve trust, create positive memories and improve communication.
Fishing requires sustained levels of exercise. As we exercise, endorphins are released which result ini a lowered stress level.
